Suggested Food and Wine Pairings

We provided information on food pairings as well, and provided links for the host to order cheese and charcuterie online in advance of the event.

MALBEC

In the case of the Mendoza Malbec, the fruit is on the deeper, bluer side, very true to its French origins most notably Cahors, Malbec.

Blueberries and a touch of piquant citrus on the nose, and soft lingering fruit on the palate minus any domineering tannins, makes Malbec one red wine that pairs exceptionally well with creamy cheese, assuming the cheese in question has a sturdy flavor profile of its own, like a mild blue cheese, tangy feta, or Wensleydale.

CHIANTI CLASSICO RISERVA

Chianti Classico Riserva combines ripe red fruit notes like cherry and cranberry with some savory Mediterranean herbs and a very juicy acidity that can and will slice right through rich meaty sauces, hard, cheeses, and salami. Give the fruit in your wine a boost with salty, aged Pecorino or Parmigiano-Reggiano.

BORDEAUX MEDOC

This particular wine is a Merlot-driven, albeit classic Bordeaux blend, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. It has an ample array of aromas, including black currant, red berries, sweet spices, and touch of peppercorn and bell pepper. The palate is vibrant with the distinctive fine tannins of evolving Cabernet Sauvignon.

Give all those flavors a lift atop a hard, cheese like aged gouda, or Parmigiano-Reggiano. The wine tempers the saltiness which clears the way for more subtle nuttiness in the cheese while exalting the fruit in the wine. Also try a soft-ripened cow’s milk cheese like Saint Aubrey or Camembert.
